Lacquer is a complex layering technique. It's a build up of many layers. Eggshell is carved out and inlayed in the board. Silver and goldleaf are applied under transparent layers. The final process is the most difficult one, sanding and polishing exposes the colours in the different layers. After which it is polished to a high sheen.

Lacquer is a complex layering technique. It's a build up of many layers. Eggshell is carved out and inlayed in the board. Silver and goldleaf are applied under transparent layers. The final process is the most difficult one, sanding and polishing exposes the colours in the different layers. After which it is polished to a high sheen.
Mix of clay, mortar, glue and sawdust is build up into a thick layer and burnt before layers of gesso and paint are applied. This creates a highly textured surface in which symbols are printed or carved.

Inspiration comes from extensive travelling around the world. Immersion in cultures and interest in their symboles and architecture. I'm also interested in the balance between manmade objects and nature.
